Brace fitting day!
I arrived at
Orthodontic Excellence a bit nervous, but felt relaxed after a few minutes in
the chilled atmosphere of the waiting lounge. The nurse called me in, I
settled down, and began to watch the television on the ceiling, whilst my
orthodontist got started. It seemed like no time at all and my teeth had
been polished, dried, painted with a little brush and the braces put on.
It felt a bit strange, especially having my lips pulled back with the plastic
retractors, and I felt a bit of pushing as the brackets were stuck on.
Once the brace was on it felt most peculiar having those brackets in my mouth -
I was sure I could never get my mouth closed over them again!!
One day later
and my mouth felt achy and strange, but I could close my lips over my teeth
quite easily. I was very aware of my mouth most of the time, and my teeth
felt tender. I was biting very gently on anything! How long would
this last?
One more day and I was getting used to my
new teeth. I thought I would be a bit shy to smile with my braces, and
that everyone would stare at me. Almost disappointing that not one person
commented! Getting used to eating as well. Decided to write a
blog..........
Now I know what it is like to be in the patient's chair. Virginia
